Volunteer for a Committee 

Would you like to volunteer to be on a MassRecycle committee? Member participation in MassRecycle committees is vital to the growth and development of the organization. We have big plans for the year and need your help!

Participation in committees is limited to MassRecycle Members in good standing. Below is a list of our active committees as of summer 2025.  If you are interesting in joining a committee, please fill out the form below.

Podcast Committee

Current Members: Gretchen Carey, Consultant and Rob Gogan, zero waste volunteer

  • The goal of the Podcast Committee is to record and broadcast audio interviews with materials management professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  • With the generous support of Burlington Cable Access TV and ReWorld, we have recorded and produced over fifty podcasts as of June 2025. Topics include the amazing RecyclesMArt recycling education initiative, clothing reuse and recycling, the carbon cost of materials management, Cell Phones for Soldiers, how the Mining Act of 1872 still rewards mining and discourages recycling, and many more topics.
  • Using Spotify and iTunes, we have offered free podcasts at no cost to anyone with internet access.
  • If you have suggestions for who else we should interview, or who may be interested in sponsoring a podcast, please let anyone on the committee know.
  • The Podcast Committee meets the 4th Tuesday of the month, 2 pm to 3 pm

Tour Committee

Current Member: Rob Gogan, zero waste volunteer

  • The goal of the Tour Committee is to coordinate and promote tours across Massachusetts. Tours can include anything from recycling facilities to reuse operations.
  • Tours in 2025 alone have include Erving Paper Recycling, the Springfield Materials Recovery Facility, Black Earth Compost’s Framingham facility, and Gillette Stadium’s recycling and food waste recovery program.
  • If you know of a Massachusetts facility that recycles, recovers, or reuses municipal discards, and is a member of MassRecycle, please let us know and we will try to arrange a tour.
  • The Tour Committee meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month, 2 pm to 3 pm

MassRecycle Campus Collaborative (MRCC)

Current Members: Susan Higgins, Northeastern University; Gretchen Carey, Consultant; Laurie Simmons, Umass Amherst, and Sarah Healey, Boston University Amherst

  • The goal of the MRCC is to bring together campus stakeholders in higher education (from sustainability, facilities and other departments) from across the commonwealth to facilitate information-sharing and networking that enhances intra-campus collaboration and drives recycling, zero waste, and waste reduction goals.
  • In-person events to facilitate networking and offer tours of programs at different colleges and universities
  • Virtual events such as a Vendor Fair
  • Online office hours to advise on specific issues related to your campus
  • Outreach to campuses of different sizes situated in urban, suburban and rural areas across Massachusetts

Development Committee

Current Members: Abbey Massaro, MassRecycle; Jessica Wozniak, MassRecycle; Terri Goldberg, Consultant; Taylor Millpaugh, WasteZero; Nicole Pellagrino, Helpsy; and Waneta Trabert, City of Newton

  • The goal of the Development Committee is to continually grow MassRecycle in alignment with its core mission and values. The Committee focuses on the areas below in pursuit of this goal.
  • Increase membership and improve member benefits
  • Expand outreach and attract a more diverse audience
  • Identify new fundraising opportunities and secure sponsorships
  • Explore new projects and programs
  • Foster stronger relationships with members, sponsors, and the Board of Directors
